Psalm 46

February 9, 2020—

Everything around us is a testament to the awesome power of our God—sometimes we just get used to seeing it. Today’s song by Shane & Shane highlights God’s power and our ultimate trust in Him: “Psalm 46 (Lord of Hosts).”

Though oceans roar

You are the Lord of all

The one who calms the wind and waves

And makes my heart be still

Though the earth gives way

The mountains move into the sea

The nations rage

I know my God is in control

Today, let us pray for new eyes to see the true beauty of creation—and for greater appreciation of God’s ultimate creation: us.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

Oh come behold the works of God
The nations at His feet
He breaks the bow and bends the spear
And tells the wars to cease
Oh Mighty One of Israel
You are on our side
We walk by faith in God
Who burns the chariots with fire

Lord of Hosts You're with us
With us in the fire
With us as a shelter
With us in the storm
You will lead us
Through the fiercest battle
Oh where else would we go
But with the Lord of Hosts

Oh God of Jacob fierce and great
You lift Your voice to speak
The earth it bows and all
The mountains move into the sea
Oh Lord You know the hearts of men
And still You let them live
Oh God who makes the mountains melt
Come wrestle us and win
Oh God who makes the mountains melt
Come wrestle us and win

Lord of Hosts You're with us
With us in the fire
With us as a shelter
With us in the storm
You will lead us
Through the fiercest battle
Oh where else would we go
But with the Lord of Hosts

Though oceans roar
You are the Lord of all
The one who calms the wind and waves
And makes my heart be still
Though the earth gives way
The mountains move into the sea
The nations rage
I know my God is in control

Though oceans roar
You are the Lord of all
The one who calms the wind and waves
And makes my heart be still
Though the earth gives way
The mountains move into the sea
The nations rage
I know my God is in control

Lord of Hosts You're with us
With us in the fire
With us as a shelter
With us in the storm
You will lead us
Through the fiercest battle
Oh where else would we go
But with the Lord of Hosts
You are with us
With us in the fire
With us as a shelter
With us in the storm
You will lead us
Through the fiercest battle
Oh where else would we go
But with the Lord of Hosts

Remember Me

February 8, 2020—

As we become distracted in our day-to-day lives, at times the story of Jesus’s death and resurrection seems like just that—a story, from far away and long ago. Today’s song by Andrew Peterson helps bring this story back to life, along with our roles and hope in it: “Remember Me.”

We know what the law requires

But we pile our sins up higher and higher

Who can ascend that hill?

And I am a sheep who’s gone astray

I’ve turned aside in my own way

Have mercy on me, Son of David

Today, let us pray for God’s forgiveness, and that He might open our eyes to see Him in everyone around us—so that we can live the lives He has planned.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

Lord, remember me
When You come into Your kingdom
Lord, remember me
When You come into Your kingdom

Who can ascend the hill of the Lord?
The one who utters no untrue word
Whose hands are clean, whose heart is pure
Who can ascend that hill?
There is none righteous, no not one
We are prodigal daughters and wayward sons
We don't know the half of the hurt we've done
The countless we have killed
Our priests are cheats, our prophets are liars
We know what the law requires
But we pile our sins up higher and higher
Who can ascend that hill?
And I am a sheep who's gone astray
I've turned aside in my own way
Have mercy on me, Son of David

Lord, remember me
When You come into Your kingdom
Lord, remember me
When You come into Your kingdom

Now hear the voice of the Word made man
The spotless sacrificial lamb
A body You gave me, here I am
I have come to do Your will
And no one takes my life You see
I lay it down now willingly
And I will draw all men to Me
When I ascend that hill
On Sunday You came as a king
On Monday washed the temple clean
On Tuesday You told them what will be
On Wednesday You waited patiently
On Thursday You said, "It is time,
I'll drink this cup 'cause it is mine"
On Friday Lord, You poured the wine
Like a thief on a cross as he hung there dying
For crimes there were no use denying
The righteous Judge hung right beside him
How could I not recognize You?
How could I not recognize You?
How could I not recognize my Lord?

My Lord, remember me
When You come into Your kingdom
Lord, remember me
When You come into Your kingdom

Just days ago the sky was stone
The trees were standing stripped to the bone
You could hear creation grown
But I write these words on an April day
And the earth is drinking the early rain
The hills remember green again
And we've heard this story all our lives
Still we feel the pain of the crucified
And the end still comes as a surprise
But before the breath there in the tomb
Before our joy sprang from the womb
You saw a day that's coming soon
When the Son will stand on the mount again
With an army of angels at His command
And the earth will split like a hull of the sea
Wherever Jesus plants His feet
And up from the earth the dead will rise
Like spring trees clothed in petals of white
Singing the songs of the radiant bride
And we will always be, always be
Always be with the Lord
We will always be, always be
Always be with the Lord
We will always, always be, be with Jesus

My Lord, remember me
When You come into Your kingdom
Lord, remember me
When You come into Your kingdom

Follow Me

February 7, 2020—

Jesus invites each of us to follow Him personally—we are no different than Christ’s first apostles. Today’s song by Casting Crowns reminds us of Jesus’s constant call to us: “Follow Me.”

If at the end of yourself, just follow Me

You may lose everything, just follow Me

I will give you new life, just follow Me

Follow Me

Today, let us pray for the faith to believe that God will provide everything we need—and the courage to trust in Him alone.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

At the end of myself
I'm empty and dry
I have nothing to give
But surrender inside
Let down your nets
This is not the end
From now on you'll be
Fishers of men

Follow Me
Follow Me
Follow Me
Follow Me

At the end of myself
Judgment calls out my name
I've been looking for love
But I'm swallowed by shame
Throw away all your stones
Find forgiveness in Me
Let Me be your new passion
My daughter, you're free

Follow Me
Follow Me
Follow Me
Follow Me

At the end of myself
I've done things my own way
This world gave up on me
Now it's death I do pay
You know who I am
I'm sin's sacrifice
Today you will be
In paradise

Follow Me
Follow Me
Follow Me
Follow Me

Who is this man who calmed the seas?
And who is this man who loves the least of these?
I am the promised One
God gave His only Son
And those who believe
Will live eternally

At the end of yourself, just follow Me
If you lose everything, just follow Me
I will give you new life, just follow Me
Follow Me
If at the end of yourself, just follow Me
You may lose everything, just follow Me
I will give you new life, just follow Me
Follow Me

If We Only Knew

February 6, 2020—

So much of our world, our faith, and our God is beyond our understanding. Today’s song by Unspoken highlights how in all of our experience, we have only ever caught a glimmer of God’s true nature: “If We Only Knew.”

God, Your peace is beyond our understanding

Tender mercy like a river flowing through

You wait with patient arms to hold us

Desperate for the chance to show us

All we really need is You

Today, let us pray for a greater connection with God, the opportunity to know Him more fully—and give thanks for His endless patience and forgiveness in this life.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

We have tasted the sweetness of Your kindness
Caught a glimpse of Your glory in the sun
And the promise in Your Word it still reminds us
There are greater, greater things to come

If we only knew
How deep the ocean of Your love
How powerful every drop of blood
How much it cost to rescue us
If we only knew
How far the east is from the west
How we are clothed in righteousness
How strong the hands that conquered death
If we only knew

God, Your peace is beyond our understanding
Tender mercy like a river flowing through
You wait with patient arms to hold us
Desperate for the chance to show us
All we really need is You

If we only knew
How deep the ocean of Your love
How powerful every drop of blood
How much it cost to rescue us
If we only knew
How far the east is from the west
How we are clothed in righteousness
How strong the hands that conquered death
If we only knew

We are only scratching the surface
We are barely knocking on the door
We are only scratching the surface of Your goodness
We are barely knocking on the door
And You long to show us more

If we only knew
How deep the ocean of Your love
How powerful every drop of blood
How much it cost to rescue us
If we only knew
How far the east is from the west
How we are clothed in righteousness
How strong the hands that conquered death
If we only knew

We are, we are daughters and sons
Held in Your arms
We are, we are daughters and sons
Adopted and loved by You

The Elements

February 5, 2020—

We were not made for this world, and so we struggle against it. Today’s song by TobyMac encapsulates the fighting spirit we need to stand strong with God against the world: “The Elements”

This ain’t our home

Nah, not even close

They camouflage like we fighting some ghosts

You start to doubt everything that you know

I feel the heat and it’s starting to show

They try to break us, break us

Make us wanna give in

Today, let us pray that God will guard and protect our faith, adrift in an increasingly hostile culture—and let us set our minds towards the things of His Kingdom.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

I lace the boots up
It's straight to the door
'Cause this is worth fighting for
I get my head right
The heart's gotta follow
Whisper a prayer like there ain't no tomorrow
Take a breath
And I exhale slow
I wasn't made for this kind of cold
This ain't the kinda place that you wanna know
These are the elements, I'm telling you bro
This world is up in my grill
This world is shooting to kill
This world always gotta be stealing my heart
This world always trying to rip my family apart

I'll fight the elements
I'll fight the elements
I got spirit, I got faith
I might bend but I won't break
I'll fight the elements

And I'mma go down swinging
If I go down
I'mma go down swinging
If I go down
I'mma go down swinging
If I go down
I'mma go down swinging
If I go down

This ain't our home
Nah, not even close
They camouflage like we fighting some ghosts
You start to doubt everything that you know
I feel the heat and it's starting to show
They try to break us, break us
Make us wanna give in
Lay down our arms
Novocain us again
Lay down a fight
I could never relent
And I'mma take it all the way to the end

I'll fight the elements
I'll fight the elements
I got spirit, I got faith
I might bend but I won't break
I'll fight the elements

And I'mma go down swinging
If I go down
I'mma go down swinging
If I go down
I'mma go down swinging
If I go down
I'mma go down swinging
If I go down
Let's go!

Father God, let me see it for what it is
This ain't neutral we're up against
These elements push me to the fence
And then I end up on top of it
If I'm not careful
To recognize what is pushing in
Open my eyes to these elements
Stand up and rise to these elements
I'm willing to fight, willing to fight
The elements

God’s Not Done With You

February 4, 2020—

Sometimes it’s hard to keep moving forward when we struggle to make any progress. Today’s song by Tauren Wells reminds us that even when we feel we’ve reached the end of ourselves, “God’s Not Done With You.”

He’s got a plan this is part of it

He’s gonna finish what he started

He’s not done

God’s not done writing your story

Today, let us pray for the strength to persevere, even when our efforts don’t seem to bear fruit—knowing that God will continue to lead us to His plan for us.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

Standing in your ruins
Feels a lot like the end
So used to losing
You're afraid to try again
Right now all you see are ashes
Where there was a flame
Truth is that you're not forgotten
'Cause Grace knows your name

God's not done with you
Even with your broken heart and your wounds and your scars
God's not done with you
Even when you're lost and it's hard and you're falling apart
God's not done with you
It's not over it's only begun
So don't hide, don't run
'Cause God's not done with you, you

There's a light you don't notice
Until you're standing in the dark
And there's a strength that's growing
Inside His shattered heart

God's not done with you
Even with your broken heart and your wounds and your scars
God's not done with you
Even when you're lost and it's hard and you're falling apart
God's not done with you
It's not over it's only begun
So don't hide, don't run
'Cause God's not done with you, you

He's got a plan this is part of it
He's gonna finish what he started
He's got a plan this is part of it
He's gonna finish what he started
He's not done
God's not done writing your story
No, he's not done, God's not done with you

God's not done with you
Even with your broken heart and your wounds and your scars
God's not done with you
Even when you're lost and it's hard and you're falling apart
God's not done with you
It's not over it's only begun
So don't hide, don't run
'Cause God's not done with you, you
God's not done writing your story
No, he's not done, God's not done with you

The Struggle

February 3, 2020—

Though faithfully following God is a challenging undertaking, only in following Him do we find true freedom. Today’s song by Tenth Avenue North reminds us that no matter what we face in this life, Jesus has already freed us from “The Struggle” by His blood.

Hallelujah

We are free to struggle

We’re not struggling to be free

Your blood bought and makes us children

Children, drop your chains and sing

Today, let us give thanks for the freedom God has granted us—and ask for His constant guidance, that we may better do His will.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

There's a wreckage, there's a fire
There's a weakness in my love
There's a hunger I can't control
Lord, I falter and I fall down
Then I hold on to the chains You broke
When you came and saved my soul
Save my soul

Hallelujah
We are free to struggle
We're not struggling to be free
Your blood bought and makes us children
Children, drop your chains and sing

So why, Lord, do I still fail
Do I wear thin
Why do I still give in to temptation
On my own, I am bankrupt
I don't trust You or take You at Your word
What You've promised

Hallelujah
We are free to struggle
We're not struggling to be free
Your blood bought and makes us children
Children, drop your chains and sing

Hallelujah, death is overcome
And we are breathing
Hallelujah, our stone hearts become
Flesh that's beating
Hallelujah, chains have been undone
And we are singing
Hallelujah, the fire has begun
Oh, can you feel it

Hallelujah, death is overcome
And we are breathing
Hallelujah, our stone hearts become
Flesh that's beating
Hallelujah, chains have been undone
And we are singing
Hallelujah, the fire has begun
Oh, can you feel it

Hallelujah
We are free to struggle
We're not struggling to be free
Your blood bought and makes us children
Children, drop your chains and sing

I Will Follow

February 2, 2020—

Rarely do we live our lives as if God were in control. But today’s song by Chris Tomlin reminds us that He is everything we need: “I Will Follow”

Light unto the world

Light unto my life

I will live for You alone

You’re the one I seek

Knowing I will find

All I need in You alone

In You alone

Today, let us pray for the peace, confidence, and security in our faith to let go and trust God—He will always provide for all of our needs.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

Where You go, I'll go
Where You stay, I'll stay
When You move, I'll move
I will follow

All Your ways are good
All Your ways are sure
I will trust in You alone
Higher than my sight
High above my life
I will trust in You alone

Where You go, I'll go
Where You stay, I'll stay
When You move, I'll move
I will follow You
Who You love, I'll love
How You serve, I'll serve
If this life I lose
I will follow You, yeah
I will follow You, yeah

Light unto the world
Light unto my life
I will live for You alone
You're the one I seek
Knowing I will find
All I need in You alone
In You alone

Where You go, I'll go
Where You stay, I'll stay
When You move, I'll move
I will follow You
Who You love, I'll love
How You serve, I'll serve
If this life I lose
I will follow You, yeah
I will follow You, yeah

In You there's life everlasting
In You there's freedom for my soul
In You there's joy, unending joy
And I will follow

Where You go, I'll go
Where You stay, I'll stay
When You move, I'll move
I will follow You
Who You love, I'll love
How You serve, I'll serve
If this life I lose
I will follow

Where You go, I'll go
Where You stay, I'll stay
When You move, I'll move
I will follow You
Who You love, I'll love
How You serve, I'll serve
If this life I lose
I will follow You, yeah
I will follow You, yeah
I will follow You, yeah
I will follow You, yeah

The Beautiful Things We Miss

February 1, 2020—

Sometimes we spend our days caught in a routine, rushing through life and wishing time would pass more quickly in order to get to the next exciting moment ahead of us. Today’s song by Matthew West reminds us of the danger in this hurry: “The Beautiful Things We Miss.”

I don’t want to miss it

I don’t want to look back some day and find

Everything that really mattered

Was right in front of me this whole time

Today, let us pray that God will keep our eyes focused on the world in front of us, and the countless moments of beauty and joy He’s arranged for us to find.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

She puts on her makeup
And the last dress she remembers
That turned his head
That time he said, "You look beautiful"
At six the front door opens
And he doesn't even notice
Kisses her cheek, "Baby when do we eat? I'm starving"
Oh, the beautiful things we miss

I don't want to miss it
I don't want to look back some day and find
Everything that really mattered
Was right in front of me this whole time
Open up my eyes Lord
Keep me in the moment just like this
Before the beautiful things we love
Become the beautiful things we miss

She hides out in her headphones
Texting on her cell phone
Daddy's girl, built a world
Behind her bedroom door
While he was working hard and providing
Bigger houses still get divided
Just yesterday she was on his shoulders
But today she's older, why do we get older?
Oh, the beautiful things we miss

I don't want to miss it
I don't want to look back some day and find
Everything that really mattered
Was right in front of me this whole time
Open up my eyes Lord
Keep me in the moment just like this
Before the beautiful things we love
Become the beautiful things we miss

We don't get to rewind
There's no such thing as next time
Help me remember, help me remember
We don't get this back
They were right when they said don't blink
It all goes faster than you think
Oh, help me remember, help me remember
The beautiful things we miss

I don't want to miss it
I don't want to look back some day and find
Everything that really mattered
Was right in front of me this whole time
Open up my eyes Lord
Keep me in the moment just like this
Before the beautiful things we love
Become the beautiful things we miss

Open up my eyes Lord
Open up my eyes Lord
I don't wanna miss it
No I don't wanna miss it
Open up my eyes Lord
Open up my eyes Lord
Before the beautiful things I love
Become the beautiful things I miss

Love Does

January 31, 2020—

Rarely do we see too far into other people’s lives, or let them see fully into ours. Today’s song by Brandon Heath reminds us that God accompanies us through our triumphs and failures, hidden dreams and dashed hopes—and though others may not see this, “Love Does.”

Nobody knows why your heart is broken

Nobody cries while your prayers are going up

But love does

Nobody walks on the road you’re paving

Nobody sees all the souls you’re saving

Oh, but love does

As we come to the end of this month, let us reflect on the moments that drew us closer to or further away from God—and the moments that only He saw—and let us pray that we may follow Him more closely in the rest of the year ahead.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

This one goes out to the world changers
Shining your light in the face of danger
Oh, tell us what you know
You're a saint, you're a son, you're a promise keeper
Bottom of the well, still digging down deeper
Oh, how far you gonna go?
Chasing down hope, moving on dreams
Taking that path, maybe it'll lead you home
Maybe it won't

Nobody knows why your heart is broken
Nobody cries while your prayers are going up
But love does
Nobody walks on the road you're paving
Nobody sees all the souls you're saving
Oh, but love does
Love does
Love does

This is for the one on the front line fighting
Ringing that bell over everybody
Oh, tell us what you know
Knocking down doors in the midnight alley
Looking for life in a desert valley
Oh, how far you gonna go?
Chasing down hope, moving on dreams
Taking that path, maybe it'll lead you home
Maybe it don't

Nobody knows why your heart is broken
Nobody cries while your prayers are going up
But love does
Nobody walks on the road you're paving
Nobody sees all the souls you're saving
Oh, but love does

You are a renegade
You're an outlaw of love's crusade
And they don't know who you are
They don't know
They don't know but...

Love does
I'm telling you, love does

Somebody knows, somebody cries
Somebody feels, love does
Somebody walks, somebody sees
Somebody knows, love does
Love does, love does
Love does, love does
