Ready To Be Myself

March 17, 2020—

If we are not careful to examine our values and motivations, we can suddenly find ourselves living out other people’s lives and expectations. Today’s song by David Dunn reminds us to stay true to our Christian faith and convictions: “Ready To Be Myself.”

Who am I gonna be

When nobody’s watching me

I want to be real

What am I gonna do

To live what I know is true

Today, let us ask what more we can do to live out the truth of our faith—and commit to improving our observance and dedication each day.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

Today, today is the day
I'm waking up to say
I'm tired of the way
The way that I change
I rearrange myself to be
Someone that everybody loves
So I become someone I'm not

Who am I gonna be
When nobody's watching me
I want to be real
What am I gonna do
To live what I know is true
I let go
And oh, I've been someone else
God, I'm ready to be myself

Now, now is the time
To open up my eyes and see what I will find
I find I made up my mind
To be someone that everybody loves
So I became someone I'm not

Who am I gonna be
When nobody's watching me
I want to be real
What am I gonna do
To live what I know is true
I let go
And oh, I've been someone else
I'm ready to be myself

I want to be something more
Than a man who needs to be adored
It shouldn't matter to me
And with every breath that I have left
I'm gonna breathe it out hoping that
He says, "You've done well"

Who am I gonna be?
What am I gonna do?
Whoa, yeah
So who am I gonna be?
Yeah, who am I gonna be?

Oh, who am I gonna be
When nobody's watching me
I want to be real
What am I gonna do
To live what I know is true
I let go
And oh, I've been someone
Whoa, I've been someone
Whoa, I've been someone else
God, I'm ready to be myself
God, I'm ready to be myself

I Wanna Go Back

March 5, 2020—

The more responsibilities and worries complicate our lives, the harder it can be to see that all our hope lies in God. Today’s song by David Dunn reminds us of simpler times when it seemed easy to trust God wholly and completely: “I Wanna Go Back.”

When it was You, and it was me

I had everything I needed

Your hands were big enough to hold the world

Today, let us ask Jesus to restore our faith and sense of childish wonder—to see Him all around us in our lives, and to entrust everything to Him.

Thanks for listening today.

Here are the lyrics in full:

When I was a kid, I was sure
I could run across the ocean
And I was gonna be an astronaut
When it was You, and it was me
I had everything I needed
And faith could even move a mountaintop
And then I grew up
And then I got older
Then my life got tough
And we grew apart

I wanna go back
To Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me
For the Bible tells me so
I wanna go back
To this little light
Gonna let it shine
Gonna let it shine
I wanna go back

When I was a kid
I didn't care to keep up with the Joneses
I was just happy that they lived next door
When it was You, and it was me
I had everything I needed
Your hands were big enough to hold the world
And then I grew up
And then I got older
Then my life got tough
And we grew apart

I wanna go back
To Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me
For the Bible tells me so
I wanna go back
To this little light
Gonna let it shine
Gonna let it shine
I wanna go back

Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go back
Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go back
Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go back
Back to yes, Jesus loves me
Oh yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yeah, I wanna go back

I wanna go back
To Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me
For the Bible tells me so
I wanna go back
To this little light
Gonna let it shine
Gonna let it shine
I wanna go back

I wanna go back
To Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me
For the Bible tells me so
I wanna go back
To this little light
Gonna let it shine
Gonna let it shine
I wanna go back

Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go back
Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go back
Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go back
Yeah, I wanna go back
